LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The UK Basketball team left for Texas Wednesday afternoon from Blue Grass Airport.
A group of Big Blue fans waited outside of the Wildcat Lodge to meet the players before they loaded on the bus to Blue Grass Airport. They players smiled and waved to fans, but they know they have a big job ahead of them, as they get ready to face Wisconsin Saturday.
Once the team arrived to the airport, they boarded a Southwest Airlines plane. The stairs were a little bit of a challenge for Willie Caullie-Stein, who had to climb them using crutches. The team's flight left just after 4:00 p.m.
Fans who were there for the send-off, tell WKYT they had to see the team for themselves.
"I just wanted to wish the basketball players good luck and see them off as they go to the Final Four," says UK fan Chelsey Morgeson. "They're all super cool, you see them on TV and it's almost surreal seeing them in person."
The plane took off without any issues however there was a moment before takeoff when things came to a halt, that was because the pilot wanted his picture taken with Coach Calipari.
