LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After being closed for nearly seven hours, a busy part of Richmond Road is now back open. A crash caused a big traffic impact for Monday morning commuters.

Lexington police say a driver crashed into a utility pole early Monday morning on Richmond Road, near Sherman Avenue. The driver was not hurt, but the pole was heavily damaged.

Kentucky Utilities was called in to fix the pole. Lexington police expected all inbound lanes of Richmond Road to be shut down through 11:00 a.m. Monday. That deadline was later pushed back till past noon Monday afternoon.

A detour is in place. Police are diverting traffic onto Fairwood Lane, through the Henry Clay neighborhood, to Liberty Road then Winchester Road.
