Train hits ATV carrying woman and child

AUXIER, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators say a woman and child are lucky to be alive after a train hit their ATV.

The crash happened just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Auxier community of Floyd County.

We're told Vanessa Butcher and a 12-year-old passenger were riding the ATV when it got stuck on the tracks.

"She was trying to get the four wheeler out and didn't do it in time and was struck. She was later flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Police say Butcher had injuries to her left leg and arm, but we're told they aren't too serious. She is in stable condition.

The 12-year-old jumped off the ATV and was not injured.

Officials say if you're ever in a situation where your vehicle gets stuck on train tracks, leave it behind and save yourself.
