LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Transylvania University began construction on Friday for a new dorm on campus.
Transy's president says that the new residence hall will be the first of many new construction projects on the university campus.
"The construction of this building is the first step toward the replacement and improvement of Transylvania's oldest student housing,"William T. Young, chairman of the Transylvania University Board of Trustees, said.
The new dorm is expected to cost $7,000,000 and will open up to students in the fall of 2015.
It will be 42,000 square feet and will feature 144 beds for students.
The groundbreaking on Friday took place off West Fourth Street in Back Circle.
