Trash truck crash takes out power lines, cuts electricity

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A busy Lexington intersection lost power after a garbage truck crashed into power lines this morning.

Traffic was snarled up for the morning at the intersection of Waller and South Broadway, as the driver who crashed his truck had to stay put until power and emergency crews showed up to disentangle the lines from the truck.

While a power crew worked to restore the power, Lexington police directed traffic at the intersection full of morning rush-hour drivers.
According to a nearby business owner, it appeared the garbage truck had knocked down the lines while trying to empty a dumpster.

WKYT's Sean Evans spoke to some of those affected in businesses on Waller, like Steve West's barber shop.

"I was in here just doing a little paperwork," said Steve West, who owns Image Barber Shop. "I felt the building vibrate. And I heard the dumpster truck come in and kind of knew what had happened. They'd hit the building, jerked the power line."

WKYT was told the driver of the garbage truck was all right and they managed to move the truck out shortly after it happened.
