LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A judge has set a trial date for a Lexington man accused of killing his mother and dumping her body in a trash can. Mark Cave, 28, will stand trial on April 22, 2013.
Lexington Police arrested Cave after finding his mother's decomposed body in a trash can along Fortune Drive in February. Investigators say she may have died as early as June of last year. Cave is charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty. His attorney says they'll be working hard right up to the trial date.
"We're just going to continue to do what we have been doing," said Brad Clark. "That's work hard to prepare the best defense we can. Obviously, we're working on that around the clock. We've got a lot of resources and a lot of people we're working with and, hopefully, we'll put together the best defense we can. That's what we want to do in April and that's what we're going to do."
Cave's attorney wouldn't discuss what their defense will be, but it will likely come to light at the next hearing in January before the trial starts. The trial is scheduled to last eight days.
