Trial delayed for pair charged with hate crime

The trial of two eastern Kentucky men charged with a hate crime and attacking a gay man has been indefinitely postponed.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove delayed proceedings for 20-year-old Anthony Ray Jenkins of Partridge and 37-year-old Jason David Jenkins. They had been scheduled to go on trial starting Monday in federal court in London.

Van Tatenhove didn't set a new trial date.

The two men are charged with kidnapping, assault and violating the hate crime law.

Anthony Jenkins' wife, Alexis Jenkins, and sister, Mable Jenkins, have pleaded guilty and are scheduled to be sentenced in August.

Federal prosecutors say this is the first federal case charging a violation of a hate crime law passed in 2009.
