Trio making documentary on heroin in Northern Kentucky

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The heroin problem in northern Kentucky is the subject of a documentary that is under production.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports Los Angeles producer Lucy Treadway and Kenton County public defender Ameer Mabjish went to high school together.

They reunited after Treadway learned a mutual friend was paraplegic and living in a nursing home after complications of heroin abuse and methadone use.

Mabjish said he has seen heroin-related cases spike and wanted to do something about the issue. He and Treadway teamed up with filmmaker Julian Starks of Los Angeles for the project. Starks is a former Covington resident.

The trio hopes to finish the documentary by February.
