Two arrested in Lexington man's murder

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Lexington police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of Derek Pelphrey.

Police have charged Trustin Jones, 20, with murder and Robert Guernsey, 32, with complicity to commit murder.

Police say Pelphrey was shot in the neck while inside a car Tuesday night at the intersection of Spangler Drive and Ridgepoint Run.

Both Jones and Guernsey are due in court on Thursday afternoon to answer to the charges in the case.

Thursday morning police took Jones to a bridge along Athens-Boonesboro road, just inside Clark County near the Fayette County line, to help them locate the gun believed to have been used in the murder. A dive team is in the water but as of Thursday afternoon have not retrieved the weapon.

Police have not released any information about a motive for the crime.

WKYT has also learned that Jones had a warrant on a robbery charge out on him at the time of his murder arrest. Lexington Police say he took part in a home invasion on Zandale Drive on August 23rd. In that case, a man was robbed of drugs and cash. Jones and another man, Austin Pennie, are charged with robbery for the crime.
