Back-to-back fires destroy Richmond home

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - A vacant home on Virginia Avenue was destroyed Wednesday morning after the second fire in as many days.

We're told the first fire happened just before 2:00 on Tuesday morning. When crews arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from the back of the house. They were quickly able to get the fire under control, and say they cleared the scene in less than two hours.

There were no injuries in Tuesday's fire, but the cause of the fire wasn't found.

Overnight on Wednesday, a second fire broke out at the home toward the front of the building. The home is now destroyed.

Officials say the home was being used for storage by the owner and there was no electricity hooked up to the house.

The Richmond Fire Department's arson investigator was on the scene of the fire, and Richmond police have now opened an investigation into the two fires. A Kentucky State Police arson investigator is expected to be involved in the case as well.
