CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A death investigation that began 10 months ago has led to the arrest of two people, including the victim's mother, in eastern Kentucky.

52-year-old Brenda Bolton and 45-year-old Kenny Wayne Collins are now behind bars at the Clay County Detention Center.

Collins has been charged with murder and unlawful transaction with a minor. Bolton, the 16 year-old’s mother, is charged with complicity to commit murder and unlawful transaction with a minor.

The girl was found dead in a home on Ham Hollow Road. The coroner said she died from multiple drugs being in her system.

Trooper Don Trosper of the Kentucky State Police said, “It’s disturbing that a parent would subject their child to that type of environment where they could potentially get into things that could cause their death or even serious physical injury, but most definitely death.”

Bolton was arrested on Thursday, and Collins was arrested two days later.

State police tell us that Bolton did not have custody of her daughter at the time of her death.

Clay County Coroner Danny Finley said deaths from overdoses have sharply declined in the county from 22 in 2011 to eight in 2012.
