In the middle of the night on Sunday, one Pike County neighborhood woke up to sirens because of a fire down the street. It happened on Elswick Fork Road in the Lick Creek community of Pike County.
State police say when first responders entered the home, they located two bodies. Before that neighbors realized the homeowners' car was in the driveway of their home that was in flames. Neighbors reported seeing fire in the living room window of the home, and one even ran over and told firefighters that a couple was probably inside.
"I looked over to the mobile home, and I noticed in the living room window it was on fire. I ran over to the firefighters because they were still standing beside the road and told them that the couple was in the mobile home," said Glenna Sawyers, a neighbor. "And they asked me how I knew, and I said because their vehicle was there and the couple was still inside."
Firefighters tell us the couple seemed to have died from smoke inhalation. This fatal fire still remains under investigation by state police. The cause of the fire is still not known.
