Two dogs, two cats found dead in Lexington apartment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Animal control has made a gruesome discovery inside a Lexington apartment.

WKYT has been told animal control found the bodies of two dogs and two cats inside the unit on East Loudon.

Animal control received a complaint and when they entered the building they found two dead cats and two dead dogs.

George Cole has a big cleanup ahead of him.

His friend, Letha Jones, was just cited for failing to take care of two cats and two dogs that were in her possession.

They were found dead Monday, on the upper floor of an East Loudon apartment building.

Cole says, "I have a dog and he is well taken care of."

Some neighbors say it was widely known Jones wasn't taking care of the animals.

The owner of the animals has been cited and could face up to four years in prison.

The health department was also called out to inspect the building where the animals were found.

Breathing in toxic fumes from animal waste can be hazardous.

There's no word yet on whether or not the property will be condemned.
