(SPRINGFIELD, Ky.) - On Sunday, January 13 Kentucky State Police received a call from the Washington County Dispatch in reference to a possible shooting.

At approximately 10:16 PM EDT Springfield Police Department's 911 received a call in reference to a man threatening suicide at a residence on Brushgrove Road, 12 miles north of Springfield. As deputies were en route to the residence a second call was received at approximately 10:28 PM.
The caller advised that someone had been shot in the residence and that two others had left and made it to a neighbor's home.

Deputies, Troopers and members of the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team (S.R.T.) responded to the scene. At approximately 3:39 Monday morning, the SRT entered the home and found one male and one female deceased and secured the residence.

The victims have been identified as 52-year-old William Woodford and Woodford's mother-in-law, 58-year-old Phyllis Tarter, both of Washington County. William Woodford's wife, Debbie Woodford and his 17-year-old stepson escaped the residence and were not injured.

"My sister Debbie called me at 10:30, said that she had called 911. That her husband had shot my mom," said Christina Hernandez, Phyllis Tarter's daughter. She continued, "She died to protect my sister and her son, that's what any parent would do. And we're all proud of her for that. We didn't want to lose anybody, but it could've been all three of them though."

Autopsy's have been scheduled for Monday at the State Medical Examiner's office.
