Two people arrested for trespassing at Lexington gym targeted by thieves

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - Lexington Police were called to LA Fitness on Wellington Way Saturday morning after management saw a vehicle in the parking lot moving from spot to spot without parking for almost an hour.

In recent weeks police say they've responded to multiple cars being broken into in the lot. One gym member, who didn't want to be identified, said her car was broken into last week and her purse was stolen.

"There's the glass from where they broke my window," she said. "I've been keeping an eye out for any cars that didn't look right."

Police say managers at the gym have been keeping a close eye on the parking lot. When they saw a white SUV circling this morning they called 911.

Police questioned the two people in the SUV, Barbra Prater and Michael Kyle, eventually arresting both of them and charging them with trespassing. While police say the two didn't give a concrete reason for being in the parking lot, they say there was no evidence connecting them to the recent break-ins.

In addition to third degree trespassing Barbara Prater was also charged with third degree possession of a controlled substance.

The thefts from those cars remain under investigation.
