Two-year drug investigation leads to dozens of arrests in Clark Co.

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - Nearly two dozen people are facing charges after a two-year drug investigation.

Winchester Police say they arrested 20 people after undercover officers bought drugs and guns during the roundup.

Investigators netted almost two dozen weapons from handguns to assault riffles and a large sum of illegal drugs from low level to-upper level dealers.

"The bulk of the drugs which we purchased around 100 grams of cocaine-crack cocaine over the last two-years with a street value of approximately $50,000," said Captain James Hall.

While it's a long and tedious process, according to investigators, this roundup went as planned

"To make our streets safer and if it means having to buy the guns off the street then that's what we'll do so we can build a case against these individuals and give them as much jail time as we possibly can," said Captain Hall.

The majority of those arrested are now in federal custody.

Investigators are trying to determine if any of the guns seized during the roundup were used in other crimes in Winchester.
