Two injured in downtown Lexington shooting

Two people are recovering form gunshot wounds after shots were fired during a brawl in the heart of downtown Lexington early Thursday.

Lexington Police say a brawl broke out in a parking lot off West Main Street, between Limestone and Upper Streets, around 2:30 a.m.

People in the area tell police they heard several shots -- as many as 15 -- being fired.

Some downtown residents say it sounded like a series of fireworks.

"It was like boom, boom, boom...boom...boom. It was very loud," says Jim Whittenmyer, a downtown Lexington resident.

The two victims showed up at UK Hospital.

Police say a woman is in critical but stable condition. A male victim doesn't have serious injuries, according to investigators.

Police are still searching for suspects.

For Whittenmyer, it's concerning that the shooter has not been found and he hopes that changes soon, "I don't think they would come back, but they created a violent act. They need to be found and arrested.

Investigators believe the brawl may have started inside Trust Lounge before spreading into the street.
