UK Hoops fans: 'Still proud of how far they've come'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - For UK fans, Monday night's game was a tough one to watch. But they say this team still has a lot to be proud of considering what was accomplished this year.

The only thing that was their way of their first ever Final Four was the University of Connecticut Lady Huskies. And for UK Hoops, their chances were promising with a great few years, making the Elite 8.

UK Hoops fans say this season was especially one for the books, setting new records.

"The records that A'dia Mathies has set, and the team has set have been fabulous," said Wendy Boardman, a UK Hoops fan.

And with the UK men's team out of the tournament, you'd think there would be even more hype. But that wasn't the case Monday night around Lexington.

UK Hoops fans that WKYT talked to said their disappointment wasn't just in how the women played but how few people came out to support them.

"It's always sad. I used to play basketball, and nobody comes out to support women," said Teresea Osborne, a UK Hoops fan.

UK Hoops fans told us that they are used to sometimes cheering alone, but they say that doesn't make it right, especially with a team that has made it so far.

UK Hoops has never beat UConn in the post-season. Their only win against the Lady Huskies was back in 1992.
