LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) University of Kentucky Police now say a report of a robbery inside a campus dorm was fake. UK issued a crime alert to its students and employees on Tuesday morning, after a student reported that a man had shoved them down the stairs in a UK dorm and taken his wallet.
The student said he was in the stairwell at Kirwen Tower on UK's south campus around 12:30am on Tuesday when a man in a hooded sweatshirt shoved him down the stairs. He wasn't able to give police more of a description.
The UK Police Chief posted the following tweet on Tuesday afternoon: "@UKPolice has learned that reported robbery of a student in his residence hall was a fabrication made up by the victim."
If convicted under Kentucky Law, falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement is punishable by up to a $500.00 fine and/or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months. Additionally, if a student, those falsely reporting an incident will be referred to the Dean of Student’s Office for violation of the Code of Student Conduct.
