UK doctor raising money for new cancer care suite

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Inside Swim Bike Run of Kentucky, there are a whole lot of people sweating for Dr. Jonathan Feddock's idea. Feddock is a cancer doctor at UK Hospital and he says that treatment can be pretty inconvenient for patients.

"They're kind of stretched between two different areas, between two separate buildings of the hospital," Feddock said.

A new cancer suite to treat those patients in one place would cost $1.2 million. So, Feddock decided to do something about it.

"I guess if you were to ask me what my two passions in this world are, one of them's racing Ironmans and the other is taking care of cancer patients," Feddock said.

A lot of people coming to cycle at Swim Bike Run Kentucky Saturday were donating, and he's come up with a unique fundraiser for his next Ironman race.

"I'm going to start as the final person in the water and raise money per person that I pass throughout the day. The going rate is $6.23 per person," Feddock said. He's not talking about just a few people.

"I think it's very capable I'll pass 2,500," he said.

He's hoping to raise at least $200,000 to help make that new cancer suite a reality.

"If you want something to happen, you've got to make it happen for yourself," Feddock said.
