LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It’s a new era for UK football and many Big Blue fans just can't wait for it to begin.
They’ll get their first look at coach Mark Stoops' team Saturday night in the annual Blue-White game and a record crowd is expected at Commonwealth Stadium.
Corn hole, cookouts and Cats fans filled up the parking lots around Commonwealth Stadium one day before the Blue-White game.
“We like to party. We're UK fans and we have the RV. We have our friends here and we have been coming here for years,” said Carole White, a UK fan from New York.
“This is my first time I’ve ever come to the spring game. I traveled three hours to come to the spring game this year,” Rod Rhew, a UK fan from Madisonville.
After several lackluster seasons, some say this year's spring game will be a fresh start for the fans, players and the entire program.
“It’ll be the biggest crowd we have ever had and that’s great for these kids and this football program,”
Some say the reason that a big crowd is expected is because of the excitement surrounding the hire of Mark Stoops as head coach.
“The people in Kentucky are starving for football and they love it and Stoops is the man to get it done here,” said Tim Lester, a UK fan who traveled from Madisonville for Saturday’s game.
There will be a number of firsts at this year's game including free, first-come first-serve parking and a shuttle running to and from Keeneland throughout the day.
But fans say, most of all, they're just excited to finally have fun again at a UK football game.
“We are going to be competitive and that’s what people want, people want it to be fun to come out and watch them and it will be this year,” said John Ripy, a UK fan from Frankfort.
WKYT will air the Blue-White game on a delayed basis Sunday night at 7:00 on the CW Lexington.
Wildcat Warm-up will begin at 6:30.
