A line of strong to severe storms will race across central and eastern Kentucky over the next several hours.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) UK President Eli Capilouto says because of a lack in state funding, the university is forced to raise the cost of going to school.
He also points to some of the major construction and renovation undertakings at UK that cost in the billions of dollars.
Capilouto says the state only covers $35 million.
To soften the blow somewhat, he says he'll try to get faculty members merit-based pay raises and set aside $11 million in financial aid for students.
The Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet Friday and is expected to approve the tuition increase. Next year's budget will be approved by July 1.
