WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - We have a traffic alert for anyone who uses U.S. 60 in Winchester. The road is closed between mile point 14.5 and 15.5 until next month. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the closure is necessary for roadway safety improvements. Those include guardrail updates, the addition of shoulders and the replacement of drainage structures. People who live along U.S. 60 will be allowed access to their homes, but others will have to find a new route to take.
"I will have to leave earlier, especially because they are doing roadwork on the interstate, so I'll have to leave like 15 minutes early probably," says driver Rikka Bowman.
The construction is expected to be complete by August 1. Drivers can take the Mount Sterling Bypass and I-64 in Clark and Montgomery counties as an alternate route.
