U.S. Chamber endorses Mitch McConnell in senate race

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce confirmed Friday what most people already knew: the chamber is endorsing Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for re-election.

The chamber has already spent $200,000 on ads for McConnell, including a television ad that aired in December. But McConnell used the official endorsement of the chamber and its 300,000 members nationwide as evidence that he is working to create jobs.

A spokesman for the chamber, Rob Engstrom, declined to say how much money the group planned to spend on McConnell, but says the Kentucky Republican is the group's top priority.

McConnell faces a May 20 primary election against Republican Matt Bevin and a general election against Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.
