LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky is among the places across the state marking Veterans day.
The school held a luncheon Monday afternoon to honor those who've served our country.
Officials say the luncheon is a chance for the campus to show how much the veterans are appreciated and also for those veterans to spend some time with people they can relate to.
Veterans from all parts of campus, including students and staff, gathered in Buell Armory for the university's Veterans Day luncheon.
Officials say veterans face many challenges as non-traditional students and don't have a lot of opportunities to spend time with other students who can relate to their life experiences.
"The goal here at UK is to keep the message simple, to say thank you for your service," said Anthony Dotson with the UK Veterans Resource Center. "We appreciate you and we want you to graduate successfully."
There are nearly 600 student veterans at UK.
Officials with UK's Veterans Resource Center say the University has been recognized as a top ten "Best for Vets" college.
