UofL conference to look at Civil War's impact

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A conference at the University of Louisville will look at shifting viewpoints after the Civil War and its impact on politics and culture.

The daylong conference is set for Feb. 8 and will feature a keynote talk by Brandeis University fine arts professor Nancy Scott. She will talk about the Union's African American 54th Regiment in Boston.

Also presenting talks will be history, art and literacy scholars from UofL, the University of Maryland, Middle Tennessee State University and Lewis and Clark College. There will be sessions about emancipation, the Museum of the Confederacy and Gen. Sherman's march through Georgia.

The morning sessions will be at Ekstrom Library's Chao Auditorium and afternoon sessions will be at the University Club.
