LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police have made an arrest after two people were shot inside a car over the weekend.
Investigators arrested 21-year-old Dynell Stewart Monday in Frankfort.
"This investigation was conducted with the assistance along with the Frankfort Police Department. They assisted greatly and the suspect in this was apprehended without incident in Frankfort. He is currently lodged there at the Franklin County jail," says Lt. Wallace Hays, with Lexington Police.
Police say Stewart fired several shots into a car with three people inside on Bolivar Street early Sunday morning. Two of the people in the car were hit. They went to St. Joseph hospital, but were later taken to UK with serious injuries. One of those victims has since died. The Fayette County Coroner's Office says Allen Smith, 23, died from his injuries late Monday afternoon. The other victim's name has not been released.
Friends of Smith tell WKYT that he was an unselfish and respectful man. They also say he had a promising future in the music industry.
Stewart now faces a murder charge, in addition to two counts of assault and one count of wanton endangerment.
Stewart is being held in the Franklin County jail.
