Vendors react to fireworks ban
The ban has really hit vendors hard - ones already dealing with a drop in sales due to the weather. They say sales have been rough this year, and Lexington's fireworks ban is making them worse.
WKYT has been talking to a lot of families, and a lot of groups raising money for various organizations through firework sales. Many of them are now worried the fireworks ban will severly hurt sales.
For families selling fireworks, this year's sales fizzeled fast.
"This is the hardest year so far on account of the heat," explained TNT Fireworks seller Jimmy Ezell, "this year's been kinda slow. Kinda the way the holiday's running through the weeks like it is, and the weather's kinda unbearable."
Ezell's been selling in Kentucky for five years. And for him, this is the first time city leaders have banned individuals from setting fireworks off.
"We do it as a family. This is how we get by through the winter months. This is how we survive to help us get ahead so we can stay just a little bit ahead around the holidays that's coming up next."
