Rounds of showers and thunderstorms could cause issues across the region Saturday. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Everything is more audacious at the Kentucky Derby - the crowd, the hats, the wagering and now the gigantic video board.
Looming higher than the iconic Twin Spires, the "Big Board" makes its Derby debut Saturday as the newest landmark at Churchill Downs. The screen gives the infield throngs a larger-than-life view of the race, even if they never see the tracks.
Towering 170 feet over the backstretch, the high-definition video screen cost $12 million. It's bigger than three NBA basketball courts. The horses are shown 70 feet tall, more than 10 times their true size.
