MARION COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- Family, friends, and co-workers gathered Thursday night to remember a sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty one year ago.
A candlelight vigil was held outside the Marion County Sheriff's office for Marion County Deputy Anthony Rakes.
On November 14 of last year, Deputy Rakes was shot during a traffic stop.
His sister tells us she's still struggling to deal with the loss.
"I miss him very much. It's hard. It doesn't feel like it's been a year, even though it has been. The pain's still there," said Anita Elder.
The sheriff's office is working on a permanent memorial for Deputy Rakes.
The man charged with his murder, Dewayne Shipp, is scheduled to go on trial in April.
Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty.
