Vitale says UK would play IU

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - On Tuesday night's ESPN telecast of the Indiana-North Carolina game, Dick Vitale said Kentucky coach John Calipari sent him a text, saying he would be willing to open the season against IU in the new Barclays Center. Proceeds would go to the V Foundation.

Kentucky and Indiana are not playing this season after negotiations to continue the series fell apart. IU wanted a multi-year contract with games played in Bloomington and Lexington and at neutral sites. UK's final offer was for one game in December at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Indiana is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation and routed North Carolina 83-59.
