Warrant issued for a wanted serial burglar

Updated: Thu 6:50 PM, Feb 14, 2013

CASEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials with the Casey county sheriff's department say they have issued a warrant for James Lopez, Jr.

Lopez is connected to a string of burglaries in at least five different counties. "He's connected in Anderson, Boyle, Casey, Mercer and Lincoln," explains Captain Scott Elder, with the Mercer County Sheriff's Office. "His MO is the same in almost every situation," explains Elder. "He knocks on the door once, and if no one answers he breaks in. This is incredibly risky behavior because he doesn't know if anyone is really home or not."

We're told by officials that he targets cash, jewelry and prescription narcotics. "Everyone can be a target," says Anderson County Detective Bryan Taylor. "At this time it's best for people to keep their belongings hidden, doors locked and house secure. No one's house is safe at this time."

Officials say that Lopez is believed to be driving a silver passenger car with a spare tire on one of the front tires.

If you know where Lopez is or have seen him you're urged to call police.
