Rounds of showers and thunderstorms could cause issues across the region Saturday. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes will be possible.
WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (WKYT)-The people of Morgan County are thrilled with the announcement of a $30 Million dollar grant to go toward the rebuilding of their city.
Complete with ceremonial groundbreaking, state, county, and city officials announced thirty million dollars in state and federal grants to help rebuild West Liberty following the deadly tornadoes of last March.
"That Saturday morning when I showed up right after the Friday evening tornados and I took one look at this community--It wasn't here anymore," Governor Steve Beshear said following the announcement. "I knew then it was going to take a Hurculean effort by all of us to get back on our feet."
The money, along with a tax credit program and public and private partnerships, will fund a new county office building; historic building recovery; an office and parking structure downtown and a recovery center.
"It's been complicated and tough," Congressman Hal Rogers said of the effort to raise the money. "These projects are going to say the the world and local people---we're here."
Rogers says fighting for some of the federal money was hard given other natural disasters that have happened nation wide.
"The thing that inspires us are these people who are so courageous and perservere day and night through horrible conditions. You can't help but want to help," Rogers said.
Beshear continued, "To see how far we've come---still have a long way, but we've come so far."
