We've heard a lot of stories of survival from the devastating tornadoes that ripped through Kentucky. Today we are sharing a a unique one.
A picture that was in a West Liberty family's home ended up 134 miles away in Sissonville, West Virginia and on Friday afternoon it was returned to the family that lost so much.
"Oh, my goodness, I can't believe it traveled that far," said Melissa Rose.
Roses' home was destroyed by the tornado that hit West Liberty on Friday March 2nd.
"Nothing's left, everything is gone," she said. "My boyfriend and I had to take cover in the basement under my pool table."
Days after the tornado left her homeless, an unlikely story began to unfold.
"This man called me and said, I have a picture that has your name on the back of it," said Linda Donahue.
Longtime photographer, Linda Donahue, owns Riverside Photography Studio in Salt Lick, KY.
Donahue says the person on the other line was Rod Jones of West Virginia, he and his wife found the photo lying face down in their back yard.
"He scanned the picture and sent it to me," Donahue said. "As soon as I got it, I remembered taking the picture."
But she couldn't remember who was in the photo, because she took it in 2005.
"Finally, I just stuck it on my Riverside Facebook page and said does anyone know who this is?" said Donahue.
Within minutes she received numerous responses telling her who the people in the picture were. Jessica and Josh Clark from Menifee County.
"It just shocks me that it's still together and you can actually still make us out," said Jessica Clark.
She says the photo of her and her brother was taken as a Christmas gift for family members.
"I do remember that day," said Josh Clark. "I wasn't too excited about wearing a sweater. But I'm glad we ended up taking the picture now."
It's an unlikely story, thanks to a gift that keeps on giving.
"It survived a lot and we will survive, too," said Rose who has a message for the couple who found the photo and made this reunion possible.
"Thank you so much, you don't know how much this means to me."
