Western Kentucky church destroyed by fire

HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) - A church in Kentucky's southwestern corner has been destroyed by a fire.

The Paducah Sun reports Hickman firefighters worked throughout the day on Wednesday in an effort to save West Hickman Baptist Church, but only portions of the building's brick walls were standing when the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.

The church congregation numbers about 125 and this is the second building of the church to be lost to a fire.

The congregation lost another sanctuary to flames several years ago.

Pastor Jason Sipes said services will be held in the Fulton County High School gym until leaders decide how to proceed. He says he expects they will rebuild.
