Western Ky. police officer hit by car

ELKTON, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky police officer has been injured when a car hit him as he was assisting with a wreck.

Kentucky State Police say 36-year-old Elkton Officer Brian E. Atkinson of Hopkinsville was knocked down on U.S. 68 East at 7:15 a.m. CDT Thursday where he was investigating a two-vehicle, non-injury crash. Police say as Atkinson was pushing one of the vehicles off the roadway, another car hit Atkinson and the vehicle he was pushing.

Atkinson suffered multiple injuries. Jennie Stuart Medical Center spokesman James Goss in Hopkinsville said Atkinson was treated and released.
