Two Whitley County residents stabbed, airlifted on 4th of July

WHITLEY Co., Ky. (WKYT) - Whitley County Officials say two were airlifted after a stabbing that occurred in the Upper Mulberry area.

Police say Julia and Clarence Lawson of Skagg's Branch were traveling with two grandchildren and two other men when an argument started within the car.

According to police, the conflict turned physical, and the events leading to the conflict are still under investigation.

Clarence was treated by EMS after deputies say Julia called 911.

Clarence was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Another man in the car, George Saylor of Harlan, was treated for lacerations as well, and airlifted to UK medical center.

In the vehicle and around the area where the fight occurred, police found a large amount of blood and a wooden walking stick or "Bubba Stik" which was broken in half.

Investigators charged Julia with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

The investigation is still ongoing.
