Man hurt in fire; police investigating cause

WHITLEY CO, Ky. (WKYT) - Joey Lowe ran over to help when he noticed that his neighbor’s house was on fire.

“I went over to open the front door, burned my arm, singed it good,” said Lowe, who lives across Coal Camp Road in Whitley County from George Davis.

They called for more help and Lowe said firefighters arrived within minutes. The 75 year old Davis was found near the back of the house.

“And he was laying in the floor, like in a fetal position,” said Lowe.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the cause.

Lowe says he saw both local and state investigators sifting through the damage until early Friday morning. He says they are questioning if the fire was intentional.

“But I don’t know of anyone who would want to hurt him,” Lowe said.

Davis was taken to the UT Med Center in Knoxville.

“They (Davis’ brothers) said that he made it through the night, but this morning his heart stopped on him once, but they brought him back,” said Lowe.

Lowe says he believes his friend will pull through but is concerned about his age hampering his recovery.
