Whooping cough cases on the rise

Posted: Thu 11:42 PM, Jul 19, 2012

An alert tonight for parents--doctors say whooping cough cases are on the rise.

Madison County health leaders tell us they're dealing with an outbreak. So far this year they've received 21 confirmed cases of whooping cough. That is the most Madison County has had in years.

Christie Green from the Madison County Health Department says, "We do know that whooping cough is one the rise in the United States, and its cyclical. You'll see periods of time when there are a lot of cases and then it'll go back down again."

The centers for disease control say nearly 18 thousand cases of whooping cough have been reported nationwide this year. The US is on track to have the most cases in five decades.
