Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories

By  |

Winter Storm Warnings are now in effect for Bell, Harlan, Letcher, Pike, Knott, Leslie and Perry counties till Tuesday evening. This area could see total accumulation of 4"-8", especially in the higher elevations through Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for a large chunk of our area. Click on Micah Harris WKYT Facebook Page for a map of the targeted areas.

There is a possibility that other locations will be put into this category, but for now we are just looking at minor accumulations for the rest of the zones. This will be an all day event where widespread snow will be the story with breezy conditions. This will make it feel like the 20s during the rest of the day. A general 1"-2" for most of the region is what we will see, with higher amounts to the extreme southeast where we could see 2"-4". We will continue the snow showers through the night and into tomorrow. This is the main impact time frame as we could see school, business, etc cancellations due to snow covered roads overnight. Snow showers do not seem to let up much on Tuesday, so to sum it up we could see virtually 48 hrs + of continuous snow falling for some locations. We could add another 1"-2" for much of the region on Tuesday with an additional 2"-4" for the extreme southeastern zones. The higher amounts will no doubt be in the mountainous/higher elevated areas. The major roadway issue that I see should be in the that southeastern corner of the state from Tuesday morning through the afternoon. Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday we could really see some snow pile up in the mountainous region. All in all this is nothing we haven't seen before. This won't be a major event, but more of a nuisance through the next 48 hrs for most of us.

We will begin to clear out on Wednesday, so Thursday through weekend appear MUCH better. Dry weather settles in and temperatures back toward normal!? I bet many of us like the sound of that...
