Fire crews from multiple different counties aided in putting out a massive wildfire in rural Bourbon County.

The fire, which burned more than 18 acres and destroyed two barns, started around 12:45 PM. "The weather and the dry conditions definitely played a factor into this fire," explains Bourbon County Fire Chief Lloyde C. Campbell, "it started in one barn and then jumped to the field next to it, destroying the barn on that property as well."

The fire managed to skip over Cythnia Criswell's house, which sits in between both properties."I was panicking, all I could think was that my house was going to burn down and that my animals were going to be inside when it did," explains Criswell. "When I pulled up and noticed that my house was ok I was elated!"

Fire fighters sprayed down the Chriswell's house just as precaution. A small fire did spark in some mulch outside of their house but we are told it did not cause any damage.

The heat caused a major issue for fire fighters. Four were treated at the scene for heat related issues, however none were taking to the hospital.

Officials say they are still looking into what exactly started the fire but are confident that weather played a factor.
