WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Schools continue to look for ways to improve security following Friday's deadly elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird says officers patrolled the Williamsburg City Schools campus Monday and Tuesday morning. There were no threats made involving the school. The patrols were simply a precaution.
The superintendent tells WKYT it is common for officers to stop by unannounced and check on the school. He expects more of that because of what happened in Connecticut.
Officers have also been re-evaluating safety plans and procedures. Police expect to submit some recommendations to them after the first of the year.
The superintendent and police chief say they would like to see every school with a resource officer in the building during all school functions.
Williamsburg City Schools are home to about 800 students.
