WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - Winchester police are moving forward with an investigation into a shooting that involved a married couple as an attempted murder-suicide.
The shooting happened around 8:30 Thursday night at a home on Kittison Drive in Winchester. Police say Theodore Volkar called 911 and told them his wife had shot him three times.
When officers got to the scene they found him in his front yard with gunshot wounds to his lower torso area and arm. His wife, Patricia Volkar, was found dead inside the home.
WKYT's Whitney Wetzel talked with several neighbors who say they knew the couple was having problems, but never would have expected something like this to happen in their neighborhood.
"Never dreamed of it honey, and I really didn't think when I was talking to her, it never seemed like anything like that would ever go on. It was really shocking that it would go on in this neighborhood because you read about it [never] thinking it would be across the street from you," says Betty Gayhart, a neighbor who lives across the street from the Volkars.
Theodore Volkar is still at UK Hospital. His condition is not known at this time.
Patricia Volkar's body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
