A winter storm will deliver snow to our region

Posted: Tue 1:36 PM, Mar 05, 2013

A winter storm continues to impact our weather with rain this afternoon. That will change this evening and overnight as cold air wraps into the state. Snow will break out and should become heavy at times into early Wednesday.

Wraparound snows will fall across much of central and eastern Kentucky during this time. The heaviest will be across parts of central and northern Kentucky, where several inches of snow will be possible.

Far northern parts of the state are in the 3″-6″ range. The Lexington metro west toward Louisville could receive 1" to 4″ of wet snow. Areas farther south and east are in the 1″-2″ range with locally higher amounts in the highest elevations of the southeast. A few spots in northeastern Kentucky may have a hard time realizing those totals as a mix may linger into the overnight.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is out for far northern Kentucky. Most of the rest of the area is under a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.
