Winter storm warning continues in eastern counties

JACKSON, Ky. (AP) - A winter storm warning continues through Wednesday morning for the eastern counties of Harlan, Letcher and Pike.

The National Weather Service office predicts snow will continue to fall through Tuesday night at elevations above 2,000 feet.

The snow may be heavy at times and accumulations of between 6 and 12 inches are expected.

Lower elevations can expect wet snow Tuesday morning changing to rain in the afternoon. Total snowfall accumulations are expected to be between 1 and 3 inches.

Strong, gusty winds of up to 40 mph are expected at the lower elevations, while above 2,000 feet there will be sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph. Gusts of up to 50 mph are possible on the highest peaks, leading to near-blizzard conditions at times.
