LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – After several delays a woman charged with the murders of her daughter and granddaughter was back in court Thursday.

Lillie Stanton's arraignment on two murder charges only lasted a few minutes and she stayed silent the entire time.

Once Stanton realized a news camera was focused on her she turned away from it and faced the opposite wall.

According to police Stanton admitted to killing her daughter 23-year-old Korrey Stanton and her 23-month-old granddaughter Kaydence Miers and then tried to kill herself. Police say she tried to cut her own throat and wrists.

Police say Stanton was worried about the father of her granddaughter getting custody of the little girl.

At today's hearing her lawyer waived formal arraignment and entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. He asked the judge for extra time until their next hearing because of the amount of evidence they expect in the case.

Stanton is scheduled to be back in court in December for a pretrial conference.
