LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- A woman woke up to find a masked man in her bedroom.

Lexington Police say four college students live inside the home on Aylesford Place. Police say the criminal got inside through an unlocked back door.

Once inside, the thief made his way upstairs. Police say a woman noticed him in her bedroom, rummaging through her belongings. She was able to scare off the man.

The woman then crawled out a window and onto the roof where she called police.

According to the victim, the man stole her purse and some small electronics.

"I've lived in this area for most of my life actually," explains next door neighbor Mike Stead, "in the same neighborhood too and there have been break-ins pretty much throughout."

Stead says his home was broken into over a year ago. "it's important that people remember to lock their doors and windows, even during the day time. You never know when someone is looking to get into your house."

Police are still looking for the suspect. He was wearing a black hoodie, a black mask and black gloves.

No one inside the home was hurt.
