The flash flood threat increases late tonight and into Thursday. Rounds of storms may dump a lot of rain across our region.
BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - State police have released the name of a woman who was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Madison County.
It happened around 9:30 Thursday night on Battlefield Memorial Highway.
The victim was identified as Heather Holwerda, 38, of Berea. State Police say she was standing in the northbound lane near her home when she was struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Word of her death spread to Richard Smith, a former patient of the dialysis clinic where Holwerda worked.
"It was rough going into dialysis. And she was just there, smiling at you, and having great conversations. It was a tough thing to go through. And to have someone like that in your life to help you go through it, you can't ask for anybody else, for anything more," said Smith.
Smith and his wife stopped by Holwerda's home to place a bouquet of flowers at her front door.
Thunderstorms touched down on Thursday evening but, right now, police can't determine if weather played a factor in this crash.
The driver of the vehicle was facing unrelated charges prior to the accident.
The collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
