Woman injured in Oldham County boat explosion

OLDHAM COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a boat to explode, leaving a woman badly injured.

At one point, flames and smoke were shooting out of the boat, which was docked at a marina in Oldham County.

Firefighters say the people on the boat were trying to fix some mechanical problems when it exploded yesterday afternoon.

"They had just come into the marina from fueling and had one of their engines stall, and in an attempt to restart the engine the boat exploded," said Asst. Chief Don Dahl, of the North Oldham Fire Department.

Firefighters say a woman on the boat lost part of her leg in the explosion. She was taken to a Louisville hospital, and is expected to survive.

Two other boats near the explosion were also damaged.
