Woman killed in crash involving mack truck

FLAHERTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman is dead, and four others injured, after a crash involving a mack truck.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, about two miles southeast of Brandenburg in Meade County.

Kentucky State Police say the box truck collided with a Saturn on US 60 at the intersection of KY 144. In the aftermath of the initial crash, four other vehicles were hit.

42-year-old Melissa Wilkins of Brandenburg was driving the Saturn. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others, including the truck driver, are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

At this point, police think the driver of the box truck, 41-year-old Thomas A. Russell of Lebanon Junction, ran a red light.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
